Hey! Seems like this is my first blog, admittedly I'd prefer having this set up like Google Docs where I could just type out my blogs instead of needing to make them manually in html but whatever. I don't really have much to talk about right off the top of my head, so I'll just yap about Deltarune Chapter 5, so yeah spoilers for chapter 5 lol.
Let me get this out of the way immediately, I loved chapter 5. Every thing about the chapter was incredible to me, from wild choice to have 2D platformer sections to the amount of callbacks to Undertale and Deltarune Chapter 1. I had the rug completely swept up from below me, even moreso than for when Chapters 3 and 4 came out.
I will admit I feel like the game had mild issues with pacing, even so it overall was incredible seeing just how much Deltarune's presentation and gameplay has evolved since 2018. From the art being polished to a shine, to the gameplay being improved upon in all new ways every time. It genuinely feels like every subsequent chapter is its own game that carries on the same plot (By all accounts, it is but still its interesting).
During my first (and so far only playthrough) of the chapter, it took me around 8-10 hours to complete including breaks. I managed to get as many secrets as I could find, including two of the pedal items (That being Aqua's Knife and Yellow's Hat) and the shadow crystal. I remember seeing people say that the Flowery fight and the Mew mew fight were really difficult and yeah they were pretty hard but it didn't take me all that long to complete them, each taking like what an hour or two? Certainly didn't take me as long as the other secret bosses did. I remember back when it was only chapter 1 and 2 it took me like forever to finish the jevil fight.
I keep pressing [ by accident instead of p when I try to create a new paragraph element. Anyways, I think the soundtrack is really well put together. The choice to collaborate with several artists this time was incredibly interesting, as I don't think Toby Fox has really done that on this scale before. Does make me curious about what he'll do next with Chapter 6 if he'll collaborate more with people or not. Out of all of the tracks, I think Rakuichi Buster might be my favorite even if it is just another rude buster cover.
The lack of From Now On was really interesting, Toby did state that Deltarune Chapter 5 was going to be the last chapter where its just fun so maybe the choice was more deliberate than it seems. I assume then in Chapter 6 the rude buster theme won't appear and it'll just be From Now On due to it seemingly being a more serious chapter.
I suppose I'll mention the weird route at the end here. Or what I more accurately assume is the true name, Deltarune's Side B. While I haven't played it myself, from the reactions I've been seeing, nobody saw this coming even from a mile away. I won't really be talking about the like actual content itself, moreso the implications of what its trying to do or possibly set up.
I'm not even sure where to begin really, there's a lot to cover. Well I suppose I'll talk about the sans thing because it's been on my mind for a while. So, Sans in Undertale as you may know is supposedly not originally from Undertale. At first I dismissed it as being kind of silly, but now I completely get it there's too much to say it isn't true.
First and most obvious thing is the punchcard, in the weird route sans has Susie draw 3 faces supposedly of Herself, Kris, and Ralsei. Which may sound familiar if you remember that Sans has something matching that description in his house in Undertale. Alongside that, he also shares almost every trait that sans had in Undertale down to the teleporting in the same room shtick. I think the greatest nail in the coffin though is what happens to sans when he dies in the Genoside route, he bleeds...
In all of Undertale and Deltarune, there are only two instances of a character bleeding. The first being Sans who bleeds when you hit him in the genocide route, and the second being when Susie cuts her hand on the glass mural in Deltarune Chapter 4. Not a single monster in Undertale bleeds, but given that Susie has blood it can't be an odd thing for a monster to be able to bleed.
Of course I can say that but what does it mean. Well for starters it's important to note that sans himself says that he had "Given up on going back." Presumably talking about the world of Deltarune. I don't wanna ramble too much so I'll just say that I think that Sans wasn't the only person who went from Deltarune to Undertale, with the goners being the only other characters having been from deltarune. I don't think Papyrus is from Deltarune though, if anything I think Papyrus is from Undertale given that he doesn't bleed like sans does. If so then what could that possibly imply??
I'm kinda getting tired of writing now, so I'll just wrap up my thoughts real quick. Device theory is pretty cool I think the weird route and main route practically confirm it given the "Deltarune chapter Seven Side B" screen we see and also Ralsei describing the game UI as a "separate layer" just like how Device theory stated.
Yeah anyways I'm done with this blog post. Thank you for reading OH MY GOD I just checked the html to see what I wrote LMAO that's a lot of text.
